When it comes to getting inspiration for new ideas of things to do in your classroom, the Internet is always a rich source of information, and specially, Youtube. This video-sharing website hosts lots of videos that might change your mind about how we educate the next generations.

We have selected four videos that inspire us, and have the potential to motivate us to re-evaluate the way we teach in our classrooms. Let’s take a look!

Ken Robinson: Changing Education Paradigms

This one is a classic video about the current paradigm of education, that every teacher should be familiar with. This is part of a TED talk given by Ken Robinson, a British author, speaker and international advisor on education.

He speaks about how the school system was designed under the influence of the industrial revolution, and therefore, we educate children as if schools were production lines. With the information revolution that new technologies have brought to our lives, and the rise of globalisation, this has to change: listen to Mr. Robinson’s idea on how the education system should change to adapt to this century:

Future Learning

This short documentary starts with the fact that motivation is a critical issue in classrooms nowadays: how can we get, and retain our students’ attention for the whole lecture, if we don’t let them participate and engage with the content?

That’s why this video defends a system in which children learn their lessons all by themselves, only with a fast internet connection, the help of their classmates, and without a teacher giving them the correct answer.

Singapore’s 21st-Century Teaching Strategies

This video shows us the work of several teachers at a school in Singapore, a city that has become one of the world’s top education systems.

They approach their teaching by taking into account that school should be fun; and the best way to make learning fun is by using technology as an essential tool within the classroom. In this video, you can see several practical ideas of things you can do in class with technology, whether with a computer or a smartphone:

The people vs The school system

Prince Ea is is an American spoken word artist, poet, and filmmaker, who made this great inspirational video about the education system.

He uses this metaphor to describe the school system: we’re forcing fishes to climb trees. That’s how he speaks out about the way the system kills creativity by not taking into account the individuality of each student.

This forces us to think about the following question: are we preparing students for the future?

Watching these videos will surely make you think about how you conduct your lessons, and give you some new ideas you can implement in order to properly engage your students. In that sense, we are confident that CRISS will be a major breakthrough in the way we teach our students the basic digital skills. Don’t you also want to take part in the transformation of the education system?
