The awareness for equal use of technology in education is in continuous growth and development. When speaking about pupils with special educational needs (SEN), in this article we would like to make an approach on the education of students with visual, physical and hearing impairments, as the subject is really broad and the learning needs between the various impairments are very different.

The use of information and communication technology (ICT) has given an opportunity to inclusive education for all pupils in meaningful learning experiences. In this way, education is meeting the needs of all learners. To do so, barriers are being identified in order to make the required adaptations. For instance, the developed software for smartphones, tablets and computers is helping pupils with visual and physical impairments to have a better access and good use of these devices. To read and write are easier now with voice over programs, which are based on spoken descriptions. We can find a wide sort of programs that can be used in the classroom to teach and learn that will increase the accessibility; such as softwares that may include a virtual magnifying glass to enlarge text, a virtual keyboard, which in many occasions is more useful than a mouse for physically impaired, and Braille displays, for those that have both visual and hearing impairments.

On the other hand, it has been suggested in multiple studies that technology is a great equalizer, in means of how technology can help create the conditions for equal opportunity to learn and to access the curriculum. The use of ITC can serve to overcome or compensate for the differences among learners with SEN.

We have mentioned a few options that tutors, teachers or pupils can use in the classroom or at home to benefit from the use of ITC to improve the learning process. As well, many materials have been developed to address special educational needs. Information has become a necessity and a fundamental for all and technology is facilitating in countless ways the access to knowledge and exchange of ideas.
